Sanctify my Heart ~ poetry by Leesa Love

We don’t serve a little nameless stone

We serve the God who always leads us Home

Sometimes we get lost along the way

Then He’s the God who forgives when we stray

Sanctify my heart, purify my soul
Fix my legs of bronze
for all the world will know…

I am standing in the gap for you

Crying out to the God who makes all things new

I am facing the high and raging seas

When you feel weak, stand behind me…

It doesn’t make you any less of a man

To have a wife who will gently take your hand

and stand…

Sanctify my heart, purify my soul
Put me through the flames
I will not let go…

I will stand against the flames for you

Ignite a tiny spark and watch the fires of love grow

I lift my voice to the One who walks among whatever we go through

And I will be there too

Believing in you!

Sanctify my heart, purify my soul
I cannot change the past
The future’s beyond my control

God doesn’t make mistakes

But sometimes we make wrong turns

I don’t know how long it will take

But I know how bad it hurts!

So, Lord, Sanctify my heart
Purify my soul
Fix my legs of bronze
So strong that all the world will know

May He look upon my hands

See cleanness in His sight

May He look into my tear-filled eyes and see a wife

Who’s not afraid to fight…

May my prayers fill His presence

Like a fragrance through the air

Let Him honor my loving capacity

And a willingness to care

I hope that He will see the changes inside of me

And let the sun stand still over there

Close your eyes if you have to

Through the darkness feel your way

I am reaching out my hand to you

Let us take this leap of faith..

Sanctify our hearts
Purify our souls
Fix our legs of bronze
So strong
That all the world will know

You are the God
Who makes the broken – whole!

For the Lord is good. His love endures forever. His faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:5

Written 11 months into my husband’s incarceration. I held up a photo I found on facebook of a newborn baby boy. My husband dropped his head and a tear rolled down his cheek. I was filled with rage and fear and a whole storm of emotions. I slammed the phone down and walked away, half intending to find the nearest bar for a hook-up and make a baby of my own, but God didn’t let me get far. Love was stronger than the affair. Love was stronger than the lies. Love was stronger than the accusations and jail time. Love is stronger than prison. 12 days after my husband recognized his own eyes in that photograph, “Sanctify my Heart” was written.

Therefore he said he would destroy them— had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them. Psalm 106:23

So I asked the Lord to sanctify my heart, purify my soul, and give me the strength to stand in the gap for my husband. We’ve been growing and healing ever since.
